Advanced cancer care treatment
Treatment options you may receive at our Nashville cancer center include:
- Chemotherapy — Chemotherapy kills fast-growing cancer cells in your body through drug treatment. Before or after cancer removal surgery, chemotherapy can shrink a tumor or kill remaining cancer cells.
- Radiation therapy — This treatment uses radiation beams to target specific areas in your body to stop the spread of cancer cells. Radiation therapy works by damaging the genetic material in cells responsible for cancer growth.
- Surgical oncology — To remove a cancerous tumor, your doctor may recommend a surgical approach. Depending on the procedure, this can either be inpatient or outpatient.
- Brachytherapy — Brachytherapy is a technique that involves implanting radioactive sources, called seeds, within or adjacent to tumors. Brachytherapy implants can either be permanent, as in the case of many prostate treatments, or temporary. Temporary implants are often performed with intense radioactive sources using a device called a remote afterloader. This type of treatment is called high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR).
