When City of Dickson Attorney Jerry Smith experienced a medical emergency at the federal courthouse in Nashville, quick-acting bystanders and a nearby AED saved his life. That moment underscored just how critical it is to have AEDs accessible in every city facility.

Assistant Police Chief Todd Christian approached TriStar Horizon’s Brent Nix about partnering with the city to help cover the cost of expanding AED access. Thanks to this collaboration, 16 AEDs were purchased, ensuring that every government building in Dickson now has an AED onsite. Horizon is proudly partnering with the city to offer AED training to all city employees to ensure they feel confident and prepared to use the devices if needed.

A former board member of TriStar Horizon, Jerry values the hospital as a good neighbor, a dedicated community partner, and a trusted healthcare provider. His remarkable recovery has inspired him to share his story so others understand the lifesaving importance of AEDs — and feel confident using one if the moment ever arises.
