For Roger, what began as a concerning scan became a life-changing journey, one defined not only by a cancer diagnosis, but by the familial, patient-centered care he experienced at TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital.
That sense of connection reflects a broader commitment across HCA Healthcare: to care for every patient with the same compassion and respect offered to loved ones.
After experiencing gastrointestinal issues, Roger underwent a CT scan that revealed a mass. He was referred to Dr. Rachel Bryant with Greenview Surgical Group. Following a colonoscopy, Dr. Bryant confirmed the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.
“Moments like these are never easy, but they truly reinforce why colorectal cancer screenings are so important. Identifying concerns early can give us a guide on the best possible outcome.” Dr. Bryant said.
The TriStar Greenview surgical team took it from there. He underwent surgery to remove the cancer, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. Throughout his nine-day stay at TriStar Greenview, Roger and his wife, Teresa, experienced care that went far beyond treatment.
“They’re family,” Teresa shared about the colleagues who helped take care of her husband. “Whenever they enter the room, they not only ensure he’s comfortable, they’re also checking on me.”
For Roger, that support made all the difference. His care team focused on his recovery while building relationships that brought comfort and trust every step of the way. Teresa described Dr. Bryant as “our miracle,” crediting her with guiding them through this diagnosis with skill and compassion. “She never leaves this room without giving me a hug,” Teresa said.
“Walking alongside him and his family as they navigate this journey is just as important to me as ensuring he’s healthy.” Dr. Bryant said.
Along the way, the couple formed special bonds with many other colleagues, including a patient care technician, Ashley, whom they affectionately nicknamed “little britches.”
Now, Roger is celebrating being cancer-free and back at home with their two dogs, Daisy and Molly.
They both have nothing but positive praise for the teams who cared for them. Their experience at TriStar Greenview reinforced the importance of regular cancer screenings and the impact of a healthcare team that treats patients like family.
