Jaxon's snowstorm arrival at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center

Jaxon's winter storm arrival marked an unforgettable first-time birth experience for parents Colby and Sam, shaped by rapid labor and unexpected icy conditions.

Jaxon arrived at 4:39am on January 24, weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 19 inches long. For first-time parents Colby and Sam, his birth became an unforgettable winter-weather adventure.

Sam, a clinical nurse coordinator at TriStar Summit Medical Center, is familiar with patient care from the bedside, but this time she experienced it from the other side.

The couple moved to Middle Tennessee just over a year ago from Florida, where snow and ice were unfamiliar. That changed quickly when winter weather became part of their son’s arrival.

Sam first came to TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center with early labor signs but returned home to wait. Not long after, she came back to the hospital, and everything progressed rapidly. Jaxon was ready.

Throughout the fast-moving delivery, the Women’s Services team offered calm, steady support that helped the couple feel reassured.

Meanwhile, Colby had briefly gone home to grab clothes. When he got the call to return, he navigated icy roads back to the hospital. Jaxon waited just long enough for him to arrive.

“This was a whole new experience for us,” Colby said. “From driving in snow and ice to delivering our first baby, we truly could not have done this without TriStar StoneCrest.”

The couple credited Dr. Mistye Taylor, the midwives and the entire Women’s Services team for creating a safe, supportive environment. Sam said the exceptional care reaffirmed why she is proud to work within the TriStar Health family.

Colby later shared his gratitude in a review, specifically thanking nurses Abby, Jakeelia, Megan, Casey, Miranda, Lindsey, Kim, Brooke and Jeanna for their exceptional care of both Sam and Jaxon.

“They explained everything clearly, stayed calm and made us feel like family,” Colby wrote. “It truly felt like the comforts of home, even during a snowstorm.”

While the winter storm will always be part of Jaxon’s story, Colby and Sam said what stands out most is the compassion and confidence shown by the Women’s Services team at TriStar StoneCrest.

“Five stars — truly unforgettable care,” Colby wrote. “Thank you for helping us bring our son into the world so beautifully.”
