Nashville, Tenn. — TriStar Health, part of HCA Healthcare, collected 19,033 diapers through its Middle Tennessee diaper drive to support babies and families across the region. The effort was held in collaboration with United Way of Greater Nashville during National Volunteer Month and supports the HCA Healthcare Foundation’s United for Healthy Starts partnership with United Way of Greater Nashville. Through the partnership with United Way of Greater Nashville, the donated diapers will be distributed to local nonprofit organizations serving families across Middle Tennessee.
After six months of local data collection through United for Healthy Starts, diapers were identified as the number one need among new and expecting moms. Because diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP or WIC benefits, many families struggle to afford this essential basic need.
“Diapers are one of the most basic needs for new and expectant parents, yet they can be a significant financial burden for families,” said Mitch Edgeworth, president of HCA Healthcare TriStar Division. “We are grateful to our colleagues across TriStar Health and HCA Healthcare who showed up for a worthy cause. Their generosity reflects our commitment to supporting healthier tomorrows for families across our communities.”
TriStar Health facilities and HCA Healthcare corporate colleagues supported the drive through diaper donations, packing events and online giving. As part of the effort, United Way of Greater Nashville and Nurses for Newborns joined TriStar Health for an educational panel with more than 500 attendees, where participants were encouraged to support local families by purchasing diapers.
The diaper drive was part of HCA Healthcare’s We Show Up for Our Communities initiative, a monthlong effort focused on service and volunteerism in the communities HCA Healthcare serves. Across the country, the initiative supported 1,866 nonprofits, engaged 9,790 colleagues in volunteer service and contributed more than 41,800 volunteer hours to meet local needs.
