Nashville, Tenn. — TriStar Centennial Medical Center is pleased to announce that it has completed more than 30,000 minimally invasive robotic surgeries, marking the highest number of robotic cases in Tennessee.

In 2003, HCA Healthcare Founder Dr. Thomas Frist, Jr., and former Chairman and CEO Jack Bovender purchased the first robot for TriStar Centennial Medical Center. It was also the first robot in Middle Tennessee and utilized for urology cases in the hospital’s Tower OR #17.

Today, TriStar Centennial Medical Center offers minimally invasive surgery with the most advanced technology for a wide range of surgical procedures. In minimally invasive procedures, surgeons operate through surgical instruments attached to mechanical arms and use a camera arm for viewing.

TriStar Centennial has 11 robotic systems, with a 12th system pending delivery. Robotic surgeries at TriStar Centennial include gallbladder surgery, general surgery, gynecological surgery, hernia repair, oncology surgery and urological surgery.

“We are proud to offer more robotic assisted procedures than any other hospital in Tennessee,” said DeNene Cofield, vice president of surgical services at TriStar Centennial Medical Center. “Robotic systems provide innovative technology, allowing our surgeons to safely operate the robots as a tool with 10x magnification. This minimally invasive approach is a testament to our patient-centered care commitment of providing better outcomes, fewer complications, smaller incisions and less harm to surrounding tissue.”
