Approval granted to build ER in Murfreesboro for TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center
Smyrna, TN — The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission has unanimously approved TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center’s Certificate of Need to establish a new freestanding emergency room in southern Murfreesboro.
The $19 million TriStar Murfreesboro ER will expand access to high-quality, 24/7 emergency care for residents in southern Rutherford County, one of the fastest-growing regions in Tennessee. The facility will include:
- 11 treatment and exam rooms
- 1 trauma room
- A full-service lab and advanced imaging department
- A 3-bay ground transport base
“Rutherford County’s rapid growth demands greater access to emergency care, and we’re proud to take this important step forward,” said Lou Caputo, chief executive officer of TriStar StoneCrest. “This ER is a critical investment in the health and safety of our community, ensuring families receive timely, life-saving care close to home.”
TriStar StoneCrest has long served Murfreesboro through urgent care centers and medical office expansions. Last year, more than 8,000 Murfreesboro residents received care at TriStar StoneCrest’s ER in Smyrna. Freestanding emergency rooms offer the same capabilities as hospital-based ERs and help reduce wait times across the region. TriStar Murfreesboro ER will accept all insurance providers, including TennCare.
Community support played a vital role in securing approval for this project. More than 1,200 people submitted letters urging approval, showing the clear need for expanded access to emergency care. TriStar StoneCrest thanks every individual who wrote and the county, city and state delegations for their advocacy and approval.
The Certificate of Need was approved by a vote of 7-0.
