Spine conditions we treat
Spinal conditions can be complex, so we offer access to multispecialty orthopedic teams who are experienced in treating a wide range of conditions, including:
- Herniated disc
- Scoliosis
- Spinal injury
- Spinal stenosis
- Spondylolisthesis
- Weak or unstable spine
Types of spine treatments we provide
When the small bones that make up the spine (vertebrae) or the discs between them deteriorate because of injury or age, it puts pressure on the nerves in the spine and can cause you pain. Our spine specialists will offer the most appropriate orthopedic care treatments for you.
Specialized spine surgery
Our Joint and Spine Center has fellowship-trained spine surgeons, dedicated operating rooms and special teams for spine surgery. We care for patients during preoperative planning, treatment and postoperative physical rehabilitation.
Types of spine surgery we perform include:
- Anterior/posterior cervical laminectomy (relieves pressure resulting from spinal stenosis)
- Cervical laminoplasty (removes pressure from the spinal cord in the neck)
- Kyphoplasty (treats fractured vertebra)
- Spinal cord stimulator (helps manage chronic pain)
- Spinal fusion (prevents movement and facilitate healing)
Minimally invasive techniques, such as robot-assisted surgery, are an option for some spine surgeries. This type of surgery uses a smaller incision and results in reduced scarring, bleeding and pain.
Interbody spine fusion procedures
During an interbody fusion, the disc between the vertebrae is either partially or completely removed. It is then replaced with a prosthetic spacer to keep the bones from rubbing against one another. Metal screws and plates may then be placed on the outside of the vertebra to help stabilize the bones.
There are several types of interbody fusion your spine surgeon can perform:
- Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF)
- Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF)
- Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF)
- Posterolateral fusion (vertebral fusion that begins on the outside of the vertebra.)
